NYC Office of School Health - Nursing Unit

The nursing program includes school nurses, nursing supervisors, and Public Health Advisors/Assistants who work under borough-specific Assistant Nursing Directors. The OSH central office oversees administrative functions including reviewing medical accommodations for students, managing communicable disease outbreak responses, providing technical support for contract agency nurse staff, and coordinating resources to help students attend school. The unit operates through a partnership between NYC Public Schools (NYCPS) and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). With an estimated 50-100 employees in the nursing unit, OSH nurses serve a vast network of public schools across New York City, providing direct care, case coordination, and health promotion services to the nation's largest school district.
