Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC) is one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive public health institutes, founded in 1972 and headquartered at 1500 Market Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Originally established as the Philadelphia Health Management Corporation, the organization has grown over five decades to employ more than 3,000 staff across approximately 70 locations, operating 350 programs and serving close to 350,000 clients annually. PHMC partners with government, foundations, businesses, and community-based organizations to deliver outreach, health promotion, education, research, planning, technical assistance, and direct services across the Greater Philadelphia region. For nurses, PHMC offers opportunities in community-based and public health settings rather than traditional hospital environments. Nursing roles involve care management for specialized populations, including women with children in residential treatment settings, individuals experiencing homelessness, and those with behavioral health and intellectual disability needs. Nurses may work across multiple program sites and are involved in coordination of medical departments, supervision of support staff, medication management, and liaison work with medical directors.
PHMC's mission is to create and sustain healthier communities through partnerships with government, foundations, businesses, and community-based organizations. The organization's core values include collaboration, health access, innovation, inclusion, growth and development, and wellness. Its Research & Evaluation Group is additionally guided by values of collaboration, integrity, and equity, with an emphasis on health equity that acknowledges historic, systemic, and structural conditions contributing to inequities.
